Cracker by Cynthia Kadohata
So far Cracker is a unique book about a dog who ended up having to leave his family and best friend. The family couldn't keep him so he was donated to the army to become a working dog in Vietnam. He hasn't gone to battle yet, but he is being trained in Georgia. He has finally bonded with his new owner and they are great partners. He is one of the best dogs in the company, but still strays off of the beaten path at times. I predict that Cracker will be successful, but there has to be a problem that has something do with being a booby-trap, bomb sniffing dog since he is going into the heart of battle soon. Both Cracker and Rick are upstanding citizens and I have a feeling there is some heroism to come.......
